What is a hygienist?
Dental hygienists are trained professionals who specialize in the art of keeping your teeth and gums clean and healthy. Dentist diagnoses the problems of the gums and devises a treatment plan with help of hygienist who delivers the plan. Both professionals gives the patient enough tips to gain momentum in the regimes to be adopted by an individual to maintain a disease free mouth.
What can they do for me?
We all accumulate particles of calcium and phosphate salts from our saliva which harbor around the necks of the teeth hygienist helps to remove these deposits gently and atraumatic way so that gum health can be reverted back to health.
- Stain removal – Tea, coffee, red wine or fizzy drinks gradually stain your teeth over time. A good dental hygienist can help remove them using natural products like baking soda, giving you that a whiter smile. Riverway hygienists also use the innovative Airflow system which uses air, sodium bicarbonate and water together to remove even the most stubborn stains.
- Fresh Breath – A clean mouth means fresher breath!
- Prevention of gum disease – If your gums bleed while brushing, it’s a clear early sign of gum disease. Your hygienist can help detect symptoms early through tests, and help prevent it from progressing. This is important because if left untreated, gum disease can be lead to loosening or even loss of teeth.
- Oral Hygiene Plan – Our personalized oral hygiene plans are created through extensive consultations with you, to address your specific needs. The plan would include recommending the right products, different types of brushes and demonstration of effective ways to use them.
- Dietary Advice – The food we eat affects our teeth primarily in two ways - through staining or acid erosion. Our hygienists work with you to assess the dental impact of your diet, and come up with suitable recommendations so that your diet has minimal impact on your teeth.
Most of the time, people approach dentists when a particular dental condition is already in an advanced stage, which makes it that much harder to reverse. One way to prevent this from happening is to make periodic visits to your dental hygienist – we recommend at least two visits a year - so that the state of your dental health is periodically assessed professionally. Remember, the more often you visit a dental hygienist, the less often you need to visit your dentist!
